Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
2023 Enrolments
Our enrolment drive for 2023 has already begun. The official enrolment period for Catholic Schools in this Archdiocese runs from Monday 2 May until Friday 27 May. If you have a pre-school child ready for Kindergarten, it’s time to enrol now. Catholic Education Canberra Goulburn has an online enrolment form, which can be accessed by clicking the link below. If you need to access a hard-copy form, please contact the Front Office. An interview will be organised once the enrolment application is received. If your friends have a child starting in Kindergarten next year, please encourage them to consider Mt Carmel as an option for their children’s education. We will be holding Open Day tours on Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 May, with a Parent Information Evening in the Lacey Library at 6pm on Wednesday 18 May.

Playgroup
Next Thursday, the Mt Carmel Playgroup will be recommencing. Playgroup will run from 9am to 11am each Thursday in the Playgroup Room off the Dutton Street entrance to the Performing Arts Centre. The cost is $3 for the first child, then $1 for any additional children and includes morning tea. We are very excited to have playgroup back after a long hiatus. All are welcome; spread the word!
Cross Country
Congratulations to all the Mt Carmel students who represented or school so well at last Friday's Northern Region Cross Country Carnival, especially to Macy Camilleri, Emmett Crocker, Patrick Dawes, Hugo Dunstan, Bryson Flynn, Reese Flynn, Josh Miller, Chloe Pearce and Archer Regan, who all made it through to the Archdiocesan carnival at Stromlo next Monday.
School Photos
School photos will take place next Monday 9 May; students are to wear their full winter uniform, including jumper. This year, photo orders can be placed via the your child’s Compass profile. If you experience any difficulty accessing this, please contact the school office. Families with three or more siblings at the school are eligible for a free family portrait if they order three individual student packs but need to call MSP directly on 6255 9208 to organise this deal.
Parent-Teacher Interviews
Our final classes have completed their Parent-Teacher Interviews today, but I would like to remind all families that if you would ever like to discuss any aspect of your child’s schooling, you are always welcome to contact your child’s teacher to arrange a meeting. Having conducted the interviews a little differently this year, I am interested in your feedback about the experience. I will be sending a short survey later this week via a Compass notification.
Readers for Parish Mass
St Augustine’s parish is recruiting volunteers who may be interested in the Reading Ministry at Mass. Any Year 6 students who may be interested in this service, and of course any parents from across the school community, can come to a training session for the Ministry of Readers on either Thursday 12 May or Friday 13 May at 7pm in St Augustine’s Church.
Happy Mother’s Day
And finally, I would like to wish a very happy Mothers Day to all the mums in our community. Our Mother’s Day Prayer Service will be at 9am on Friday, hosted by 2LS, and parents are welcome to attend. I hope that you have a wonderful Sunday, filled with love and joy. May God bless each and every one of you.
May God’s peace be in your families,
Welcome to Week 2! Students are excited about Mother’s Day and are busy preparing something special for their mothers. 2LS will be leading a Mother’s Day Prayer service on Friday 6 May 2022 at 9am in the PAC. Parents are invited to attend.
Mt Carmel School is implementing the Catholic Schools Youth Ministry Australia (CSYMA) Junior program. CSYMA is a four-phase method that provides a model of student formation. It is an effective model of evangelisation and formation integrated into the Religious Education curriculum. The four-phase model consists of an initial retreat experience, Religious Education resources, implementation of the Junior Ministry team and connecting students into the broader Church. Clare Healy, our Youth Minister, will be supporting the development and growth of a Junior Ministry team in Mt Carmel School.
On Thursday 5 May 2022, Year 5 and 6 students will participate in the Journey with Jesus Retreat Day, led by a Youth Ministry team. Journey with Jesus is a faith and ministry experience that delves into core concepts of the Catholic Faith. The retreat is tailored for primary school students and is based around the Gospel message of love, salvation, and forgiveness.
Students are invited to wear casual clothes and bring their recess and lunch, or place a canteen order.

The next workshop for Yr 3-6 students is on Thursday 12 May with Matt Wilson from Mini Vinnies. This workshop will be used as a provocation for our next fundraiser event.
Prayer
Dear Lord,
Thank you for always meeting us where we are at and for blessing us with your love. Help us in the areas of our life where we fall short of your call. But may we never forget that your perfect love casts out all fear.
Amen.

National Simultaneous Storytime - Wednesday 25 May
National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Now in its 22nd successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.
By facilitating NSS we aim to:
- promote the value of reading and literacy,
- promote the value and fun of books,
- promote an Australian writer and publisher,
- promote storytime activities in libraries and communities around the country,
- and provide opportunities to involve parents, grandparents, the media and others to participate in and enjoy the occasion.
NSS receives positive media coverage, generates a great deal of community interest and is held annually as part of Library and Information Week. 2021 was our biggest and most successful NSS to date with over 1.98 million participants at over 33 thousand locations!
We are looking forward to this event at Mt Carmel!
