Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
Athletics Carnival
Despite the icy weather we’ve been experiencing so far this week, it is still our intention to proceed with the Athletics Carnival on Friday if possible as we need to complete our selections for the Northern Region carnival, which is scheduled for the end of Week 8. If Friday does prove to be too wet and cold to safely hold the carnival and we need to postpone, a notification will be sent via Compass by 7.30am on Friday morning. However, even if the 3-6 carnival does go ahead on Friday we have decided to postpone the K-2 participation until there is a more favourable forecast.
St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal and CEO Sleepout
Mt Carmel School is supporting the Vinnie’s Winter Appeal again, and each classroom has a basket to collect donations of non-perishable food items. Your generous donations will help to make a difference to families experiencing hardship in our region. This year I will, once again, be participating in the Vinnie’s CEO Sleepout, but because we have such an enthusiastic Mini Vinnie’s group at school we are going to hold a Sleepover at school. Over the coming weeks I will share with you some of the profiles of participating students who will be braving a night away from the comfort of their own bed to support this worthwhile cause. If you would like to make a donation to support our fundraising efforts for Vinnie’s, you can use the link below.

May God’s peace be in your families,
Welcome to Week 6! 3JR students visited Mt Carmel’s Mercy Chapel to examine the stained glass windows, statues and symbols. Students explored the chapel and made sketches of different symbols.
After attending Friday Parish Mass, Year 3 students stayed behind to explore Lovat Chapel and learn more about the sanctuary.
Mt Carmel’s Mini Vinnies News
This week Mt Carmel’s Mini Vinnies launched the Vinnies Winter Appeal and each classroom has been provided with a basket for donations. At the end of the term, we will be delivering them to the St Augustine’s Conference, Yass, of St Vincent de Paul.
We are seeking your support to help those less fortunate in our community through generous donations of non-perishable food items. Your generosity and support is most appreciated. St Augustine’s Conference has requested the following items:
Let us be still and ask the Holy Spirit to be with us.
Dear Father,
Be with us as we pray.
Open our ears to hear your Word in the Gospel.
Unite us in faith, hope and love as we pray together.
Send your Holy Spirit to inspire and sustain us in our mission.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
I invite you to participate in a 3 minute prayer reflecting a Scripture passage https://www.loyolapress.com/3-minute-retreats-daily-online-prayer/

3-6 Athletics Carnival
Weather permitting, we will be holding our athletics carnival this Friday, 3rd June. A call will be made by 7.30am about whether or not the carnival will go ahead and the decision will be posted to Compass shortly after. Students are to wear their sport uniform to school and can change into house colours once they are at the carnival. Those students wishing to compete in the 800m event need to arrive at Victoria Park by 8:30am. All other students in 3-6 will walk to Victoria Park with their class shortly after morning lines.
Year 2 students who are 8 or turning 8 this year, can participate in the Primary carnival and accompany a year 3 class to Victoria Park. Bear in mind that it will be a very cold and possibly wet day and the only event that 8 year olds can qualify for at Northern Region level is the 100m. Parents of Year 2 students wishing to attend the Primary carnival should contact the class teacher directly and inform them so arrangements can be made. If you are a parent/guardian and are able to help on the day, your assistance would be greatly appreciated. You can register to help using the link below.

Time: Teachers Meeting – 9.00am; First Games Kick Off – 9.30am; Day Concludes – 2.30pm
If students wish to nominate for this event, they can do so through the Google form link below. The teams will need to be organised and run by a parent volunteer in order to go ahead. Transport to and from the event and supervision during the event will be the responsibility of parents and guardians.
There are currently only 10 players registered for the 5/6 team and 5 players for the 3/4 team. Without more interest we will not be sending teams.

Many parents and grandparents visited the library with their children and grandchildren to view and purchase books. For this day to be successful there are many helpers I need to thank. The cashier ladies, Melissa Carroll, Clare Pholi, Deborah Donaldson and Tara Leighton. Thank you also to the Library Monitors for helping our guests and fellow students.
We also sold books after school last week and earlier this week and these times have allowed more parents to visit the Book Fair. Thank you to Tanya McPherson who helpd sell books at these times. We will sell again next Monday 6 and Tuesday 7 June, from 3:20-4:00pm both days.
A special thank you to Mrs Lynne Patmore, our Library Assistant, for her support and thank you to the staff for allowing the interruptions to your classroom during the day. The sales tally is creeping up which gives the school a commission in books. This will be finalized at the completion of the Book Fair.
Regards,
Evelyn Turner

Congratulations to the following students who have already completed this year's challenge:
Year 1: Asher Gorman
Year 3: Marlowe Clarke
There is still plenty of time to sign up. If you require login details, please email me your child's full name and I will set you up an account. Reading Records need to be submitted by 19 August, 2022. I will continue to acknowledge students who have completed the challenge in the newsletter.
This year we will have quite a few Year 3 students eligible for their Gold Certificate, as they have completed the PRC each year since starting in Kindergarten. It's great to see so many students, and their families, embracing their love of reading.
