Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
The last day of Term 1 will be Thursday 6 April, with the Easter long weekend starting the school holidays. Term 2 commences for students on Wednesday 26 April, following a pupil-free staff professional development day on Monday and the Anzac Day public holiday on Tuesday. The start of Term 2 means a change to the winter school uniform. The Uniform Shop’s last day of trading before the new term will be next Tuesday – it will not be open on the pupil-free Monday. All orders received by 2pm next Tuesday will be sent home the following day.
Interim Reports and Parent-Teacher Interviews
Teachers are currently preparing Interim Reports for all students, which will be published to parents on the last day of term. This year, for the first time, the Interim Reports will be published on Compass, so parents will receive a notification when reports are available to view from their child’s profile page. Although in a slightly different form, the content of the reports will be the same as in previous years: a selection of Engagement with Learning indicators (these are repeated on the Semester reports in order that development can be shown) and a statement about your child’s work so far in Literacy and Numeracy. Please bear in mind that the Interim Report is not an academic report but is designed to provide parents with a general insight into the work habits and social skills that students have been displaying as they have settled into the start of the new school year.
Following on from the Interim Reports, we will hold parent-teacher interviews early next term. Each teacher will be released from class for a day to conduct their interviews within the bounds of their normal working day, that is, between 8:30am and 4:30pm. Interviews will be of 15-minutes duration and conducted via Teams meetings throughout the school day. A timetable and details of how to book an interview will be published next week.
Holy Week and Easter
Holy Week commences this weekend with Palm Sunday. On Monday morning, the Mt Carmel School Youth Ministry Team will mark the start of Holy Week with a re-enactment of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem at 9am in the PAC. On Wednesday morning, Fr Peter and the Youth Ministry Team will lead a remembrance of the Last Supper at 9am in the PAC, and on Thursday, classes will move around the school for an interactive Stations of the Cross pilgrimage, concluding with final prayer in the PAC at 1:15pm.
Easter Bonnet Parade
Although it’s not a part of the liturgical celebration of Easter, the Easter Bonnet Parade is a firm favourite on the school’s traditional calendar. This year it will be held on Wednesday 5 April at 12:30pm under the shade cloth in the playground. All students are encouraged to create an Easter Bonnet out of materials from around the home; reuse, recycle and be creative! Parents are warmly invited to attend this community event – fingers crossed for good weather.
Anzac Day Parade
As always, Mt Carmel School will be marching in the ANZAC Day parade on 25 April, and I encourage as many students as possible to attend. The march commences at 10:45am, so Mt Carmel students (in winter uniform) need to assemble outside the Liberty Theatre in Lead Street at 10.30am. The ANZAC ceremony will conclude outside the Yass Memorial Hall at approximately 11:45am.

Religious Education in the Classroom
Welcome to Week 9! 5KG used the Vinnies’ Social Justice workshop as a provocation to examine what is social justice, different values and why we advocate for social justice. During my visit to 5KG, the students worked in groups to analyse the lyrics of the song “Love Leader”.
Below are a few student responses on the question: What does social justice mean to you?
Sophie: Making a difference by making small donations.
Rosie: It is not judging people by their appearance, where they live and what job they do.
Jack: You don’t judge a book by its cover.
Reese: Live to love everyone and follow in Jesus’ footsteps.
Students created the below word clouds using words that relate to dignity and justice.

Mini Vinnies News
Mt Carmel’s Mini Vinnies’ team had their first meeting and discussed how they can raise more funds for Caritas’ Project Compassion. The team decided to donate easter eggs to make special Easter treats to sell after the Easter Bonnet parade, Wednesday 5 April. Parents and grandparents are invited to purchase something after the parade. Prices will range from $2-$10.

Friday Parish Mass Attendance
Year 6 and 2 students attended Mass last week and Fr Peter spoke to the students about Holy Week.

Project Compassion
Thank you for your support and donations for this great cause.
Please remember to send in your donations for Project Compassion and help make the world a fairer place for all. Let us be more!
Sacrament of Reconciliation
Congratulations to our students who celebrated their First Reconciliation. It is a meeting point in which God forgives you all your sins, and reconciles you with the community.

Holy Week, the final week of Lent, begins on Palm Sunday, the Sunday before Easter. It is the most important week in the Church’s year and we celebrate the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. We remember his actions, reflect on his messages and recommit to living as his disciples in the world today (Santa Maria College, 2020).
Mt Carmel’s Holy Week Events
Palm Sunday Prayer Service - Monday 3 April, 9 am, in the PAC.
The Last Supper Prayer Service - Wednesday 5 April, 9 am, in the PAC.
Stations of the Cross - Thursday 6 April, various locations across the school, morning session and concluding with a final prayer in the PAC at 1:15pm.
Prayer
Lord, we would grow with you
New shoots reaching out
Hands stretched upward
Like leaves newly formed
Soaking up your light and warmth
Lord, we would grow with you.
Lord, we would grow with you
In sunshine and rain
In darkness and light
In cold days and summer days
From Springtime to Winter
Lord, we would grow with you.
Lord, we would grow with you
And bring forth fruit
That is pleasing to you
Fed by your living water
Giving sustainance to othersLord, we would grow with you.
Amen.

Cross Country
The Mt Carmel cross country carnival will be held next Tuesday 4th April (Week 10) at Walker Park. Years 3-6 will head to Walker Park shortly after morning assembly. 8, 9 and 10 year olds will complete two laps of the 1km track. 11 and 12 year olds will complete three laps of the 1km track. 8 year old students in Year 2 who wish to participate at Walker Park need to notify their teacher so arrangements can be made for them to walk with a Year 3 class. Students will be back at school by recess so will only need to take a drink bottle with them to the track. K-2 students will run their own modified cross country at school from 12:30pm - 1:30pm, cheered on by the rest of the school and parents.
Please check the C & G website and the Facebook page for information about upcoming events https://www.sport.cg.catholic.edu.au/calendar.
