Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
Interim Reports and Parent-Teacher Interviews
Interim Reports for all students will be published on Compass tomorrow. To view your child’s report, go to their profile, select the Reports tab, and click 2023 - Interim Report Term 1. Please bear in mind that the Interim Report is not an academic report but is designed to provide parents with a general insight into the work habits and social skills that students have been displaying as they have settled into the start of the new school year.
Parent-Teacher Interviews will be held early next term according to the following schedule:
Thursday 27 April – KJG, KAA, 2SS, 4TD
Friday 28 April – 1AH, 2LS, 3ML
Monday 1 May – 3ER, 4SS, 5AH, 6EG
Tuesday 2 May – 5KG, 6JR
Wednesday 3 May – 1KG
Interviews will be held over Teams between 8:30am and 4:30pm, and bookings will open on Compass on Monday 24 April. All families will receive a Compass notification when bookings open, with instructions for how to book an interview time via the Parent Portal.
Good luck, Xavier!
Tomorrow, Xavier Doyle will be competing at the NSW Primary Schools Sports Association Swimming Championships at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre. This event features the top swimmers from all NSW primary schools – Catholic, Government and Independent. It’s a terrific achievement to make it that far; best of luck, Xavier!
Anzac Day Parade
As always, Mt Carmel School will be marching in the ANZAC Day parade on 25 April, and I encourage as many students as possible to attend. The march commences at 10:45am, so Mt Carmel students (in winter uniform) need to assemble outside the Liberty Theatre in Lead Street at 10.30am. The ANZAC ceremony will conclude outside the Yass Memorial Hall at approximately 11:45am.
Term Dates
Tomorrow is our last day of term, with the Easter long weekend starting the school holidays. Term 2 commences for students on Wednesday 26 April, following a pupil-free staff professional development day on Monday and the Anzac Day public holiday on Tuesday. The start of Term 2 means a change to the winter school uniform.
Farewell Mrs O’Dell
Tomorrow will be Mrs O’Dell’s last day with us for the year, as she takes some well-deserved long-service leave. Thank you, Trish, for your commitment to the Mt Carmel community; I wish you all the very best for a restful and rejuvenating break.
Ms Katrina Grace will take on the role of Primary Coordinator for the remainder of the year. Katrina has 20 years’ teaching experience and has previously held roles of Primary Coordinator (Acting), Religious Education Coordinator and Assistant Principal, and she will be a valuable addition to our school Leadership team.
Happy Easter
And finally, I would like to wish all students, parents and staff a happy and holy Easter — may you all have a safe, restful and joy-filled break. Take care, and I look forward to seeing everyone back at school next term.
May God’s peace be in your families,
Religious Education in the Classroom
Welcome to the last week of Term 1! During my visit to 4TD, students used the shamrock to represent the Holy Trinity. I asked a few students to explain the Holy Trinity in their own words. Below are their answers:
Will: All three parts are Jesus and the stem connects them like a family.
Kalon: It is a symbol of God.
Beau: It is a sign of God, three people in three different sections combined into God.
Georgie: Tri means three, so there are three parts of the Holy Trinity.
Lily: There are three parts of the clover and all three work together.
Stations of the Cross
Students and teachers have been busy preparing for the Stations of the Cross scheduled for this Thursday 6 April. The Stations of the Cross will be set as prayer spaces and each class will walk and remember Jesus’ journey to Calvary. At the end of the journey, Fr Peter will lead us in a whole-school prayer. Parents are welcome to join us, see below for session times.

Gospel and Reflection
Luke 11:9-10
Jesus said to his disciples:
‘I tell you to ask, and you will receive, search and you will find, knock, and the door will be opened for you.
Everyone who asks will receive, everyone who searches will find, and the door will be opened for everyone who knocks.’

Possum Magic Turns 40!
Last Friday, we celebrated the 40th Anniversary of Possum Magic.
For 40 magical years Possum Magic has captivated and enchanted children and adults alike. Mem Fox's lovable characters, little Hush and Grandma Poss, together with Julie Vivas' exquisite illustrations, weave a story of pure magic. Continuously in print since it was first published by Omnibus Books in 1983, Possum Magic has been embraced as a timeless Australian tale. (Collins, 2023)
Kind regards,
Natalie Broers
