Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
I wish all our students, parents and teachers a very warm welcome to Term 2 and I hope that the holiday break was a refreshing and relaxing time for all. My sincere thanks to all who were able to join us to represent Mt Carmel at the Yass ANZAC Day parade yesterday. That so many in our community were prepared to give up time in their holidays to honour the service of others is truly admirable. Congratulations and thanks to 5KG and Ms Grace for leading our ANZAC Day Prayer Assembly this morning.
School Uniform
Our students look fabulous in their winter uniform. Thank you to all our parents for being so supportive of our uniform policy. A reminder that the school hat is not compulsory during Terms 2 and 3. The uniform shop has been running hot as the weather gets colder; a reminder that the uniform shop is open for sizing and sales on Tuesday afternoons and orders placed via the Qkr App are dispatched on Wednesdays. If you have purchased new uniform, please ensure that every item is clearly labelled with your child’s name; any lost property that comes to the office with a legible name is always promptly returned. I also ask parents to regularly check that the jumper or sports jacket your child brings home is their own – they all look the same from the outside, and children will often just grab the nearest one and shove it into their bag at the end of the day.
2024 Enrolments
Our enrolment drive for 2024 has begun. If you have a pre-school child ready for Kindergarten, it’s time to enrol now. Catholic Education Canberra Goulburn has an online enrolment form, which can be accessed by clicking the link below. An interview will be organised once the enrolment application is received. If your friends have a child starting in Kindergarten next year, please encourage them to consider Mt Carmel as an option for their children’s education. We will be holding Open Day tours on Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 May, with a Parent Information Evening in the Lacey Library at 6pm on Wednesday 24 May.

School Photos
School photos will take place on Monday 8 May (Week 3); students are to wear their full winter uniform, including jumper. Photo orders can be placed via your child’s Compass profile. If you experience any difficulty accessing this, please contact the school office. Families with three or more siblings at the school are eligible for a free family portrait if they order three individual student packs but need to call MSP directly on 6255 9208 to organise this deal.
Parent-Teacher Interviews
Parent-Teacher Interviews are commencing tomorrow and will be held via Teams throughout the day. If you have not yet booked a meeting time and would like to, go to your child’s profile on Compass and click the 'Book Parent Student Teacher Conference' link. You will then need to click the My Bookings button followed by the teacher’s name to see which time slots are available. Please contact the school office for assistance if you have any difficulties making a booking. You will receive a Compass notification on the morning of your interview, with a link to join the meeting with your child's teacher.
Community Council Nominations
Mt Carmel School Community Council is a group of people charged with the responsibility of working with the Principal, Parish Priest and staff to provide leadership to our school. We are seeking to renew and encourage membership of this important body. A letter and nomination form are attached to this newsletter and will also be sent via Compass notification. If you would like to become a member of the Council, please complete the nomination form and return it to the front office. You can also contact the office to have a hard-copy of he nomination form sent home. You must have your nomination endorsed by another current parent of Mt Carmel School (other than you spouse/partner). We require three parents to nominate. If more than three parents nominate, an election will be held. Nominations close on Friday 12 May, Week 3.
Project Compassion Market Day
On Friday 5 May, Week 2, our Year 6 students are running a Market Day to raise money for Project Compassion and are seeking donations from families across the school to assist. Attached to this newsletter is a message containing details of donations being sought. Next Friday, students will be invited to bring some change to school to purchase items from the various stalls. Thanks to Mrs Harvey and the SRC for their planning of this exciting event.
May God’s peace be in your families,
Welcome to Term 2! It is fantastic to see everyone after the holidays and I hope you all had a lovely Easter with your family and friends.
Easter Prayer Service
Mt Carmel teachers and Fr Peter led a special prayer service this morning to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
ANZAC Day Prayer Service
5KG led a beautiful prayer service today to remember and honour those who fought to protect our beautiful lands. It is also an important day for us to stop and pray for peace – peace in our world, peace among people in our own country, peace in our families, and peace in our own hearts.

Mt Carmel’s Mini Vinnies News
Thank you to all the students, staff, and families who supported our Easter Stall fundraiser for Caritas Project Compassion. We raised $950.

Mt Carmel has raised in total $2100 for Caritas Project Compassion! Thank you for your support and donations for this great cause.
Gospel and Reflection
A reading from the Gospel according to John.
Jesus said to his disciples: “Just as my Father has loved me so I have loved you. Make sure that I keep on loving you. If you obey me I will keep on loving you, just as I have obeyed my father and He keeps on loving me. My command to you is this: love one another, just as I love you. The greatest love a person can have for his friends is to give his life for them. You are my friends if you do what I command you to do.”
