Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
2024 Enrolments
Our enrolment drive for 2024 has begun. If you have a pre-school child ready for Kindergarten, it’s time to enrol now. Catholic Education Canberra Goulburn has an online enrolment form, which can be accessed by clicking the link below. An interview will be organised once the enrolment application is received. If your friends have a child starting in Kindergarten next year, please encourage them to consider Mt Carmel as an option for their children’s education. We will be holding Open Day tours on Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 May, with a Parent Information Evening in the Lacey Library at 6pm on Wednesday 24 May.
Enrol Now (https://enrolments.mtcarmel.nsw.edu.au/nsw-schools/start).
School Photos
School photos will take place next Monday 8 May (Week 3); students are to wear their full winter uniform, including jumper. Photo orders can be placed via your child’s Compass profile. If you experience any difficulty accessing this, please contact the school office. Families with three or more siblings at the school are eligible for a free family portrait if they order three individual student packs but need to call MSP directly on 6255 9208 to organise this deal.
Compass Events
From the start of this term, we began using a feature of Compass, known as Events, to notify families of excursions and incursions and collect payments, rather than by sending paper notes and collecting payment separately on Qkr. Permission/consent, when required, can be provided electronically, and although electronic payment is our preferred collection method, cash payment can still be made at the school office. Qkr will continue to be used for the Uniform Shop and for Canteen orders. Families of Stage 3 students and those who are arranging the Northern Region Cross Country should have already received an Event notification via email; please contact the school office if you have not received this notification or if you have any issues with Events.
Parent-Teacher Interviews, Open Classrooms and Semester One Reports
Formal Parent-Teacher Interviews concluded today; I hope that the opportunity to discuss your child’s progress with their classroom teacher was both positive and beneficial. If you were unable to book a suitable time and would like to catch up, please remember that there is a standing invitation for parents to contact their child’s teacher to organise a meeting any time there are issues to discuss. Later this term, in Week 9, we will be holding an Open Classroom evening to give parents the opportunity to see their child’s work in the classroom context and have an informal chat with their teacher before Semester One reports are published in Week 10.
Community Council Nominations
Mt Carmel School Community Council is a group of people charged with the responsibility of working with the Principal, Parish Priest and staff to provide leadership to our school. We are seeking to renew and encourage membership of this important body. A letter and nomination form are attached to this newsletter and will also be sent via Compass notification. If you would like to become a member of the Council, please complete the nomination form and return it to the front office. You can also contact the office to have a hard-copy of he nomination form sent home. You must have your nomination endorsed by another current parent of Mt Carmel School (other than you spouse/partner). We require three parents to nominate. If more than three parents nominate, an election will be held. Nominations close next Friday 12 May, Week 3.
Project Compassion Market Day
This Friday 5 May, our Year 6 students are running a Market Day to raise money for Project Compassion and have a range of stalls and fun activities planned. There will be two Market sessions held through the day – Kinder to Year 2 from 11:30am to 12:30pm, and Year 3 to Year 6 from 12:30pm to 1:30pm. Stalls will be operating on a ticket system (all items and activities will have a cost of one ticket), and students can buy two tickets for one dollar at the start of their session.
Family Literacy Event
The Council of Catholic School Parents (CCSP) invites all families to join in an online book reading by author and scientist, Corey Tutt, from his book The First Scientists. On the evening of 30 May, from the comfort of their home, families can connect online to hear Corey read to their children while also picking up a few tips to help improve their child’s literacy skills. Further in this newsletter you will find a flier with a QR code to register.
May God’s peace be in your families,
Welcome to Week 2! Year 6 students and teachers have been busy preparing for their Market Day, planned for this Friday 5 May 2023. All funds raised will be donated to Project Compassion.
Mt Carmel School implements the Catholic Schools Youth Ministry Australia (CSYMA) Junior program. CSYMA is a four-phase method that provides a model of student formation. It is an effective model of evangelisation and formation integrated into the Religious Education curriculum. The four-phase model consists of an initial retreat experience, Religious Education resources, implementation of the Junior Ministry team and connecting students into the broader Church community.
On Thursday 4 May 2023, Year 6 students will participate in a two hour Journey with Jesus Retreat, led by the Youth Ministry team of the Archdiocese of Canberra & Goulburn. Journey with Jesus is a faith and ministry experience that delves into core concepts of the Catholic Faith. The retreat is tailored for primary school students and is based around the Gospel messages of love, salvation, and forgiveness.

Mt Carmel’s Mini Vinnies News
Families and friends are invited to attend Mt Carmel’s Mini Vinnies Commissioning Ceremony, Friday 5 May, 9am, at morning lines. This is an exciting occasion when we commission our new Mini Vinnies’ members of the St Vincent de Paul Society.
Mt Carmel’s Mini Vinnies group is a structured and active body of students and teachers who want to help those in need within their school and wider community.
The group aspires to live the Gospel message by serving Christ in the poor with love, respect, justice and joy, and by working to shape a more just and compassionate society.
1AH are a community! They work, play, live and share together.

5KG - have started their new Religion unit by participating in a Gospel Scavenger Hunt.
Prayer
Dear Lord,
Thank you for always meeting us where we are at and for blessing us with your love. Help us in the areas of our life where we fall short of your call. But may we never forget that your perfect love casts out all fear.
Amen.
