Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
2024 Enrolments
Our Open Day tours are complete and this evening we will hold our Parent Information Showcase in the Lacey Library at 6pm. My grateful thanks to the many student leaders who have led tour groups and volunteered to run displays at the showcase evening – you are the best promotional resource the school has, and I’m very proud of you all! Anyone who has missed the Open Days and would like to have a look around the school can still contact the school office to organise a personal tour.

Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week commences this weekend, and this year’s theme, “Be a Voice for Generations.” encourages all Australians to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways in our everyday lives – where we live, work and socialise. It is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. Reconciliation Australia encourages all Australians to take action every week of the year, not just in National Reconciliation Week. To help Mt Carmel celebrate this important week, indigenous performer, Lucas Proudfoot, will be visiting on Monday for a musical incursion, sharing songs and stories of Indigenous culture.
National Simultaneous Storytime
Today Mt Carmel School joined with schools across the nation to read The Speedy Sloth by Rebecca Young and Heath McKenzie, a fantastic rhyming book about perseverance and achieving your personal best. If you’d like to share a telling of this story at home tonight, you can go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25tV0wFPFpc.

Athletics Carnival
Our 3-6 Athletics Carnival will be held, weather permitting, next Friday 2 June at Victoria Park. Classes have been practising their athletic skills durning PE lessons for several weeks now; the 1500m has been completed already, and the High Jump will be finished at school before the day of the carnival. Primary students who are running in the 800m event will need to be at Victoria Park by 9am; all others will start the day at school and walk to and from the carnival with their class. Spectators and parent-helpers are welcome to attend, please see the link in the Sports News if you would like to volunteer on the day.
The Kinder to Year 2 classes will be coming up to Victoria Park by bus after Recess for the Infants Carnival, with running races and fun activities to test their athletic prowess. Again, parents are most welcome to join us.
Sickness at School
There are lots of bugs doing the rounds at the moment – the common cold, influenza and COVID. And although there are no mandated requirements for isolation any more, I ask that if your child is unwell, please keep them at home until they are symptom free. Attached to this newsletter are the 'Too sick for school?' guidelines, for your information.
May God’s peace be in your families,
Welcome to Week 5! Kindergarten’s Religious Education unit of work focuses on Jesus and his Family and making connections to students’ own families. Students have been learning about Joseph, Jesus’ father, and examining different images and statues of Joseph.
Task: Trace your hand. Add one person on each finger showing someone you trust.
On the palm, you can add God if you want to be like Joseph and trust in God.
