Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
Annual School Surveys
Over the coming week and a half, parents, students in Year 4 and above, and teachers have the opportunity to provide the school with valuable feedback in our annual satisfaction surveys.
I encourage all parents to contribute to this feedback using the link below. The information you provide will assist in our future strategic planning. The survey window closes next Friday 9 June at 4:30pm.

Open Classrooms and Semester One Reports
It’s hard to believe that we’re already half way through Term 2, and teachers have already started preparing reports to be published in Week 10. In order to provide parents with some context for the reports, and to give students a chance to show off some of their great learning this semester, we will be holding Open Classrooms on Wednesday in Week 9.
Reconciliation Week
It’s National Reconciliation Week, and this year’s theme, “Be a Voice for Generations.” encourages all Australians to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways in our everyday lives – where we live, work and socialise. We’re not at all jealous of Canberra’s public holiday on Monday, because we got to experience a hugely entertaining concert by performer Lucas Proudfoot, who dazzled us with his instrumental skills and had everyone in stitches with his story-telling. Thanks to Year 6 for leading our Reconciliation Week prayer service this morning.
Athletics Carnival
Although the forecast is for a cloudy day on Friday, we are looking forward to a great Athletics Carnival. We are still looking for parent helpers – it’s come to my attention that there were some technical issues with the volunteer form, but these have been fixed in the latest notification – and it’s not too late to put your hand up. The Kinder to Year 2 classes will be coming up to Victoria Park by bus after Recess for the Infants Carnival, with running races and fun activities to test their athletic prowess. Again, parents are most welcome to join us.
The canteen will be running at the carnival, with assorted snacks and lunch options. This year, to help with planning and to make sure everyone gets served promptly, we are asking parents to help by ordering lunch items on Qkr! before the carnival if possible. Qkr! orders for Friday will close at 3pm on Thursday afternoon, but snacks and some lunch items will be available to purchase with cash throughout the day. Students with pre-orders will be given priority service at lunch time.
May God’s peace be in your families,
Welcome to Week 6! On Sunday 28 May we celebrated Pentecost and the birth of the Catholic Church. Pentecost is the liturgical season after Easter and it celebrates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Church. It begins the eighth Sunday, or 50 days, after Easter Sunday. The descent of the Holy Spirit ushered in a new era for the people of God (About Catholics, 2014, Pentecost).
Religious Education in the Classroom
Year 6’s Religious Education unit of work focuses on the Catholic Church of Australia and examines the conceptual understanding of How can we take action to address a need within our community as the pioneering Catholics did?

Reconciliation Prayer Service
Thank you to Mrs Glover, Miss Rayner and Year 6 students for leading a beautiful prayer service.
Every Thursday, Year 6 students gather together to pray in Mt Carmel School’s Mercy Chapel. Students use their prayer journal, Daily Talks with God, to focus on intentions and write a personal prayer.
Mt Carmel’s Mini Vinnies News
Social Justice Workshop
On Thursday 1 June, Year 3-6 students will participate in Social Justice workshops focusing on Mercy and the importance of the Winter Appeal for our Yass community.
Vinnies Winter Appeal
Mt Carmel’s Mini Vinnies will launch the Vinnies Winter Appeal and each classroom will be provided with a basket for donations. At the end of the term, we will be delivering them to the St Augustine’s Conference, Yass, of St Vincent de Paul.

We are seeking your support to help those less fortunate in our community through generous donations of non-perishable food items. Your generosity and support is most appreciated. St Augustine’s Conference has requested the following items:

Thank you for sending your Holy Spirit to guide us.
Let us be comforted with the knowledge that Your Spirit is ever present
and helping us to build communities of hope and peace.
Help us to listen.
Amen.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word is held at Mass on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month. All children are invited to be part of the activities centred around the particular weekend’s Gospel.
