Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
2024 Enrolment Period
I have now commenced Kindergarten Interviews for 2024. It’s a very exciting time for families, and spending time getting to know each of our new students and their families is a genuine pleasure. If you have a child ready to start Kindergarten and have not yet submitted an application, please go to our website and navigate to the Enrolment tab to access the online enrolment form. If you have friends with pre-school aged children ready to start school, please encourage them to consider Mt Carmel as an option for their child’s education.
Annual School Surveys
I would like to pass on my thanks to families who have already submitted a response to our annual school satisfaction survey. For those who have not yet contributed, it’s not too late. The survey window has been extended by a week and will now close on Friday 16 June at 4:30pm. To participate in the survey, please use the link below.

Open Classrooms and Semester One Reports
The Semester One student reports will be published to Compass at the end of Week 10, on Friday 30 June. In preparation for this, so that you can view and share some of the work your child has been completing this semester, we will be holding an Open Classroom afternoon on Wednesday 21 June from 3:30pm to 5:30pm. Please discuss your child’s work and report with them and affirm their achievements. It is vital that the sharing of your child’s report be a positive experience; everyone responds to recognition and praise. Your child’s achievements are a great celebration!
Athletics Carnival
Last Friday’s weather was perfect for a day outdoors, and the Athletics Carnival was a tremendous success. Congratulations to the 49 students who were selected to represent Mt Carmel at the Northern Region Athletics Carnival in Goulburn next Friday. All those selected have received a notification via Compass. This Friday, at our morning assembly, place-getters in all events will be presented with their ribbons, and age-champions and the overall winning House will be announced. Please remember that, though our carnival is run in Year groups, selections for the Northern Region team are made in Junior, Intermediate and Senior age-categories, so a place in an individual Year group does not necessarily mean selection in the Northern Region team. A full list of all place-getters can be found at the end of this newsletter. My sincere thanks to the many volunteers, including students from Trinity College Goulburn, without whom it would not be possible to run events like this.
Staffing News
Mrs Cheryne Dunley, who has been a dedicated part of our Classroom Support Team since 2003, will be finishing up at Mt Carmel at the end of this week. Over the past 20 years, the impact of Cheryne’s direct contribution to the learning and wellbeing needs of literally thousands of students is immeasurable, and her knowledge, experience and loving care will be very sadly missed at Mt Carmel. I sincerely thank Cheryne for her commitment to our school and wish her all the very best for the next chapter of her life.
I can also share the news that Mrs Emily Rhodes has announced that she is expecting the birth of a new baby in November – congratulations, Emily! This will mean some minor changes to staffing in Year 3: Mrs Rhodes will now teach 3ER for three days, and Mrs Field will teach the other two; Mrs Leahy will now be teaching 3ML full time.
Happy Long Weekend
And finally for this week, I would like to wish everyone a happy King’s Birthday long weekend. If you are travelling, stay safe; if you’re staying home, stay warm.
May God’s peace be in your families,
Religious Education in the Classroom
Welcome to Week 7! Year 3’s Religious Education unit of work focuses on different images of God in the Old Testament. During my visit, students focused on the learning intention: What was the relationship between the Jewish people and God? Students used a biblical retrieval chart to examine this question.

Mt Carmel’s Mini Vinnies News
On Thursday 1 June, Year 3-6 students participated in Social Justice workshops focusing on Mercy and the importance of the Winter Appeal for our Yass community.

Vinnies Winter Appeal
Mt Carmel’s Mini Vinnies will launch the Vinnies Winter Appeal and each classroom will be provided with a basket for donations. At the end of the term, we will be delivering them to the St Augustine’s Conference, Yass, of St Vincent de Paul.
We are seeking your support to help those less fortunate in our community through generous donations of non-perishable food items. Your generosity and support is most appreciated. St Augustine’s Conference has requested the following items:
Prayer and Reflection
Let us be still and ask the Holy Spirit to be with us.
Dear Father,
Be with us as we pray.
Open our ears to hear your Word in the Gospel.
Unite us in faith, hope and love as we pray together.
Send your Holy Spirit to inspire and sustain us in our mission.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
I invite you to participate in a 3 minute prayer reflecting a Scripture passage https://www.loyolapress.com/3-minute-retreats-daily-online-prayer/.
Parish News
Please pray for the children as they prepare for First Holy Communion
Lord Jesus,
Bless all the children who are to receive Holy Communion for the first time.
May that day be an initial step into a life-long love of the Eucharist.
Give them a hunger for this sacred food so that they will turn to you for comfort, guidance and wisdom as they grow into full discipleship.
May their hands, extended in anticipation of your Body and Blood, inspire all of us to cherish this sacred sacrament. AMEN.

Mt Carmel Athletics Carnival
A massive thank you to all the parent helpers, teachers, Trinity students and Mt Carmel students who helped make Friday’s carnival a success. Thanks also to Robbie Shepherd who generously gave up his time to cart all our equipment to Victoria Park in his truck. It was a beautiful day and a fantastic demonstration of community spirit. Congratulations to everyone who participated and earned precious points for their house. Ribbons, age champion medallions and the shield will be presented after morning assembly this Friday, 9 June. To view all final results, please see information further in the newsletter.
