Northern Region Athletics
50 Mt Carmel Students will travel to Hudson Park in Goulburn this Friday to represent our school in the Northern Region Athletics Carnival. Best of luck, everyone, and stay warm!


Open Classrooms and Semester One Reports
The Semester One student reports will be published to Compass at the end of Week 10, on Friday 30 June. In preparation for this, so that you can view and share some of the work your child has been completing this semester, we will be holding an Open Classroom afternoon on Wednesday 21 June from 3:30pm to 5:30pm. Please discuss your child’s work and report with them and affirm their achievements. It is vital that the sharing of your child’s report be a positive experience; everyone responds to recognition and praise. Your child’s achievements are a great celebration!

Religious Education in the Classroom

Welcome to Week 8! Mt Carmel School students and staff are fortunate to be able to walk a short distance to visit Lovat Chapel and St Augustine’s Church. We are also grateful to Fr Peter who works with our school to strengthen the religious life of Mt Carmel School and support Religious Education in the classroom. Fr Peter talked to the Year 6 students about being a refugee, coming to Australia and his faith journey. This linked to Year 6’s Religious Education unit: People Journey to Create Change.

Questions for Father Peter by Year 6 Students

When you were on the boat, did you think about your family?

Have you ever heard God respond back to you in your prayers?

Why did you become a priest?

What was the biggest challenge coming to Australia?

How long have you been a priest?

Why weren’t you allowed to be a priest in Vietnam?

What was the biggest change when you came to Australia?

Did you know the language when you came?

What was the journey on the boat like?

How long were you a refugee?

Was there one person/community in particular that helped you?

What year did you become a priest?

Was it hard to adjust to the culture when you came here?

Year 1’s Religious Education unit of work focuses on how messages are communicated in many methods and we respond to them in different ways. Students will explore God’s special relationship with the Jewish people and examine the messages that God sends us through scripture from the Old Testament. 

Year 1 students visited Lovat Chapel to look for different messages that are communicated by God through the stained glass windows, the statues and other parts of the chapel. How do we respond to these messages?

Mt Carmel’s Mini Vinnies News - Vinnies Winter Appeal
Mt Carmel’s Mini Vinnies has launched the Vinnies Winter Appeal and each classroom has been provided with a basket for donations. Each week, our Mini Vinnies members visit classrooms to talk about the importance of the appeal and answer questions from the students.

Please pray for the children as they prepare for their First Holy Communion.

Lord Jesus,
Bless all the children who are to receive Holy Communion for the first time.
May that day be an initial step into a life-long love of the Eucharist.
Give them a hunger for this sacred food so that they will turn to you for comfort, guidance and wisdom as they grow into full discipleship.
May their hands, extended in anticipation of your Body and Blood, inspire all of us to cherish this sacred sacrament. AMEN.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word is held at Mass on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month. All children are invited to be part of the activities centred around the particular weekend’s Gospel.
