Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
Open Classrooms and Semester One Reports
A final reminder that we will be holding our Open Classrooms this afternoon from 3:30 to 5:30pm. You are warmly invited to come with your child to visit their classroom and share in the wonderful work that they have been doing this semester. Please be mindful that, although your child’s teacher will be in the classroom and is very happy to chat with you, open classrooms are not the appropriate forum for individual parent-teacher interviews. Parents are always welcome to make an individual appointment with their child’s teacher any time they would like to discuss their child’s progress.
The Semester One student reports will be published to Compass at the end of next week, on Friday 30 June.
NCCD
Attached to this newsletter is information about the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the NCCD. The process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about support provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019). The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.
Mt Carmel Dads Connect
In the interests of promoting social connections and mateship amongst the dads and other male carers in our school community, I would like to invite any interested fathers, step-fathers, grandfathers and others to join me at the Golf Club this evening after Open Classrooms to watch the 2nd State of Origin game, which kicks off just after 8pm (I’ll be there from around 7:30pm). Go the Blues!
Late Drop-off and Early Pick-up
If you are dropping your child to school late or picking them up early, it is extremely important that parents always come to the office to sign their child in or out of school. First and foremost are our legal and safety obligations to always have accurate attendance records of all students, staff and visitors on site; however, it also causes an administrative complication with our attendance system if parents submit part-day absences via their Compass app rather than using the Compass Kiosk at the office.
Rostrum Public Speaking
On Monday evening, Lucy Miller represented Mt Carmel at the Rostrum Public Speaking quarter-finals at the Yass Soldiers Club. Lucy spoke about, ‘A new adventure’, and was awarded first place, progressing to the semi-finals in Canberra. Congratulations, Lucy!
May God’s peace be in your families,
Religious Education in the Classroom
Welcome to Week 9! Year 5’s Religious Education unit of work focuses on Pioneering Catholics in Australia. Students viewed a selection of photographs to provoke their interest and used the Visible Thinking Routine: See, Think, Wonder to further deepen their understanding of the images.

Religious Life of Mt Carmel School

Vinnies Winter Appeal
Thank you to all families who have donated over the last few weeks. This is our last week of the appeal and we are in need of more donations. We are seeking your support to help those less fortunate in our community through generous donations of non-perishable food items.

Your generosity and support is most appreciated. St Augustine’s Conference has requested the following items:
Parish News
Please pray for the children as they celebrate their First Holy Communion on Sunday 25 June, at 10.30 am, St Augustine’s Church.
Lord Jesus,
Bless all the children who are to receive Holy Communion for the first time.
May that day be an initial step into a life-long love of the Eucharist.
Give them a hunger for this sacred food so that they will turn to you for comfort, guidance and wisdom as they grow into full discipleship.
May their hands, extended in anticipation of your Body and Blood, inspire all of us to cherish this sacred sacrament. AMEN.
I invite you to participate in a 3 minute prayer reflecting a Scripture passage https://www.loyolapress.com/3-minute-retreats-daily-online-prayer/.

Rostrum Public Speaking - Congratulations Lucy!
In Japanese this week, we have been making a popular Japanese treat found at street fairs and festivals, Taiyaki たい焼き.
Easily recognisable by its whimsical fish-shape, taiyaki (たい焼き) is a waffle-style cake/snack which is traditionally filled with sweet red bean paste (anko), however, other fillings such as custard, chocolate, Nutella, or cheese are also popular. We have enjoyed chocolate in our たい焼き this week!
It is a quintessential food at Japanese street fairs and festivals and is made in a fish-shaped iron mould resembling tai (red sea bream).

The Mt Carmel School Uniform Shop is open each Tuesday afternoon between 2.30pm– 4.00pm during school terms.
Ordering Options - Uniform orders can be placed online via Qkr! or by order form, which can be collected and paid for from the front office.
Please note we are currently waiting on an order of Size 8 Long Sleeve Polo Shirts. I was advised last week that they will not arrive until mid August. As soon as they arrive, they will be sent home to those students waiting on them. Apologies for the delay.
Back to School Vouchers - Back to School Vouchers can only be used directly at the front office. They can not be added to a Qkr order. Please note all Back to School Vouchers must be used by 30 June 2023.
All Qkr! orders placed before 2pm each Tuesday will be bundled up and sent home with your child on Wednesday afternoon. Order Forms can be collected from the front office if needed.
Please note that if the incorrect size/item is ordered or the size selected does not fit correctly, please return the item along with a note regarding changes required so the correct size/item can be sent home.
