Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
Semester One Reports
This Friday your child’s Semester One Report will be published to Compass, and you can view it by first going to your child’s profile, either on the app or in your web browser, then selecting the Reports tab. Printed reports will not be sent home, so please contact the office if you are unsure how to access them or if you are having any problems with Compass. Make sure that you also either download and save a PDF of the report to your own computer or print a copy to keep for your own records. As long as your child is enrolled at Mt Carmel you can view and download their current and previous reports, but once they leave the school you will not be able to access Compass.
This is a wonderful opportunity to take time with your child to sit and talk about the learning they have undertaken so far this year. Celebrate their successes and help them work out strategies for the areas that may need further development. Teachers commit significant hours outside of school time to prepare our children’s reports; I am very grateful for the dedicated teaching staff we have here at Mt Carmel.
Netball Stars
Congratulations to Emily Laughton, Imogen Maher, Milly Shannon, Tahlia Hooper and Charlotte Hardy who will be representing Yass at the NSW State Junior Netball Titles this weekend. Congratulations, girls, and good luck!
After School Supervision
I need to ask parents to please not send their children to play on the school equipment unsupervised after school. It’s not uncommon for students whose parents are not with them to join others who are playing on the equipment and be late for bus lines or pickup, and should falls or accidents occur on school premises, liability remains with us.
School Holiday eSafety
As a treat during the school holidays, many families are a bit more relaxed with their children’s screen-time rules (no judgement — it happens in my household, too), so it’s perhaps a good time to share some eSafety information. It can sometimes sound like a whole different language when we hear our children talk about the various games they and their friends are playing; the Office of the eSafety Commissioner has a very helpful guide to the popular and common games, apps and social media that your child may be accessing. Go to https://www.esafety.gov.au/key-issues/esafety-guide to find out about these apps and sites, including how to protect your personal information and how to report harmful content.
Back to School Vouchers
A reminder to families that the NSW Premier’s Back to School Vouchers expire at the end of this week. Our school accepts the vouchers at the Uniform Shop, but they can also be used to pay for excursions. Later this year, we will be running separate camps for Year 5 and Year 6. Any families with unused vouchers are welcome to use them as forward payments for these events. Details of the vouchers and eligible expenses can be found at the following link:
https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/back-to-school-vouchers/guidelines#appendix-a-eligible-expenses
Happy Holidays
Please note that students return to school on Tuesday 18 July in their sports uniform. Thank you to everyone for their wonderful work this term. Staff, students and parents have worked incredibly hard and these efforts are very much appreciated. I trust that everyone will have a restful and enjoyable mid-year break. Travel safely, if you are going away, stay warm. I look forward to seeing everyone in Term 3.
May God’s peace be in your families,
Michael Green
Principal
Religious Education in the Classroom
Welcome to the last week of Term 2! It has been a wonderful term full of exciting learning experiences. I have enjoyed interacting with students during their Religion lessons and joining classes during Friday Parish Mass.
Year 4’s Religious Education unit of work focuses on My community links to Catholic teachings and my life today. During my visit, students examined the Decalogue and how it tells us about living in a community.

Vinnies Winter Appeal
Thank you to all the families who have donated towards the Vinnies Winter Appeal. We have had so many donations! Mrs Judith Williams will be visiting Mt Carmel School on Friday 30 June to thank our community for the donations.

First Holy Communion
Congratulations to all the children who received their First Holy Communion on Sunday! A big thank you to the Sacramental Team for preparing this special event and the parents guiding their children through their faith journey.
We ask You to help us to be open to the Holy Spirit who leads us to the truth.
Let us feel your protection, love and grace in times of hardship and let us be your hands and feet in times of strength. Grace us to become ever greater witnesses to Your Truth in our work and in our communities.
May we be open to sharing the truth of your teaching as we fulfil the ministries of leadership and service you have called us to live.
And continue to reach out to others in need and love one another.
Amen
