Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
Open Classrooms
Term 3 is not a formal reporting term, but so that you can keep in touch with what your child has been learning this term and see some of their wonderful work, we will be holding an open classroom afternoon from 3:30pm to 5:30pm on Wednesday 20 September, Week 10.
Sports Uniform
A quick reminder that, following the conclusion of our AFL clinics, we have returned to the usual uniform arrangements: sports uniform to be worn on Tuesday and Friday.
Mr Tim’s School Extravaganza
Next week we welcome Mr Tim to Mt Carmel to help us prepare our School Extravaganza concert. The concert will be on Thursday 14 September at 6pm in the PAC. There is no cost to attend the concert, but the four-day incursion has a cost of $15 per student, which is payable via Compass.
CWA Poster Competition
The CWA Poster Competition is open again, and this year’s country of focus is Australia! There are three different classifications of entry that students can participate in:
- Colouring-in Competition (Kindergarten and Year 1) – there are two options to choose from, either a kangaroo or an emu, which can be printed from this newsletter or collected from the school office;
- Poster (all ages) – to be completed on a large sheet or cardboard, containing pictures and information about “My Australian Home”;
- Postcard (all ages) – to be completed on an A4 page, promoting an event or feature of the local area, a template/design guide can be found in this newsletter.
All entries need to be clearly labelled on the back with the school, class and name of the entrant. Entries will be collected from the school office on the Tuesday 10 October, which is the first day of Term 4. Students may choose to keep the competition aside for a school holiday project, but late entries will not be accepted. We therefore encourage interested students to complete their entry and drop it to the school office by the end of this term.
Term Dates
Please note that the last day of Term 3 for students will be Friday 22 September. Term 4 will commence on Tuesday 10 October and will conclude on Friday 15 December.
May God’s peace be in your families,
Michael Green
Principal
Religious Education in the Classroom
Welcome to Week 8! 3ER have been learning about the Jewish people and how they have a special relationship with God. Students examined the story of Jacob and Esau and then made a comic strip illustrating the message of the story, forgiving and accepting others.
I asked a few students ‘How can you use the message of forgiving and accepting others in your life?’
Atticus: You shouldn’t lie or fight with others but instead talk to them.
Esther: Everyone makes mistakes and we can forgive.
Charlie: To treat my brother nicely.
Eddie: To love one another.
Ivy: To forgive others and treat everyone equally.

Religious Life of Mt Carmel School
Father’s Day Prayer Service
On Friday 1 September, 4TD led a lovely prayer service to celebrate Father’s Day.

Throughout 2023, Catholic Mission aims to encourage everyone to engage in both a physical and spiritual journey, to share the message of love and hope not only through their words, but also through their actions, building up momentum for the celebration of World Mission Month in October (Catholic Mission, 2023). The theme for 2023 is "Hearts on Fire, Feet on the Move".
Mt Carmel School invites the community to engage with mission in an holistic way within the head, heart, hands model: encouraging a learning mind, an open heart and hands for action.
On Wednesday 20 September the SRC of Mt Carmel School will be organising a fundraiser event to raise funds for Catholic Mission. Students are invited to come to school wearing crazy socks and their favourite jersey and donate a gold coin.
Gospel and Reflection
Luke 14:25-33 The Cost of Being a Disciple
Reflection
“Anyone who does not carry his cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.” Jesus makes it very clear that choosing to follow him is not an easy task. Being a disciple means setting aside the constraints of this world or rather, putting your relationship with Jesus first. This was hard for the disciples, and it is hard for us.
We are models of what this kind of discipleship means today. How do you make room for Jesus in your day? In your week? How does it shape how you approach others? How do you put love of God and love of Jesus first? (Janina Starkey, Assistant Principal, St Patrick’s Marist Dundas).
St Augustine’s Parish News
The next one is this Sunday 10 September. All children are invited to be part of the activities centred around the particular weekend’s Gospel.

Boorowa Touch and Netball Carnival
It is time to start getting organised for the Boorowa Touch and Netball Carnival which will be held on 20th October (Friday Week 2, Term 4). It is an expectation that all Year 2-5 students attend the event. Unfortunately, the carnival clashes with Year 6 camp this year so they will be unable to attend. Teachers are starting to organise students into mixed year level teams according to their preferred sport. You will receive more information about the event in the coming weeks as the date gets closer. Although it is an expectation that students attend, if you know your child will be absent on the day, please let their class teacher know so that they can plan accordingly

Sarah Davis Sessions
Illustrator Sarah Davis visited Mt Carmel today. She presented 3 one-hour sessions with our K-6 students.
Sarah’s sessions related to curriculum focus areas across English and the Creative Arts. The sessions were fun, inclusive and energetic, with lots of audience participation. Sarah covered the process of illustrating a picture book. She showed roughs and works in progress, and explained the basic principles of character design, composition, and constructing a visual narrative. Sarah encouraged students to think laterally and enjoy being creative.
