Teaching and Learning

The NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) is the body responsible, under the the NSW Education Act, for developing and monitoring the syllabus for schools in NSW, in alignment with the Australian Curriculum.

Mt Carmel School follows the NESA NSW Syllabus for the Key Learning Areas of English, Mathematics, Science & Technology, Human Society and Its Environment (History and Geography), Personal Development, Health and Physical Education, and Creative Arts, and the Brisbane Curriculum for Religious Education.

Informed by current research and best-practice in the Science of Learning and the Science of Reading, Mt Carmel School seeks to deliver excellent learning experiences for all students, through evidence-based pedagogy and high-quality curriculum resources. Specific outcomes, appropriate for the stage of a student’s development, are targeted as the focus for teaching and learning in each of the Key Learning Areas throughout each term, and System-wide assessment protocols and access to student data informs teachers' instructional decisions, to monitor learning progress and help all students to reach their full potential.
